An organization that is very near and dear to our hearts. We have been enamored by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) since our first meeting and we continue to be grateful for its many expounding services. We're lucky to get to contribute in some aspect by donating 10% of each item sold from the You Are Collection; proceeds from every BRAVE and STRONG crewneck sweater sold in 2019!
Through building homes, lives, and communities, CMHA Kelowna offers a wide variety of opportunities for mental wellness to people of all ages at all stages. Part of a network of more than 80 Canadian Mental Health branches across the country, CMHA Kelowna brings its own unique and specific programming to the city.
The Kelowna branch came to life in 1956 and has been growing its ability to give back in many different ways. With its commitment to a thoughtful and powerful mandate, its values are as follows:
- Embrace the voice of people with lived experience of mental health and substance use issues
- Promote inclusion
- Work collaboratively
- Influence the social determinants of health
- Focus on the mental health needs of all age groups
- Use evidence to inform our work
- Be transparent and accountable.
The wonderful staff and volunteers at CMHA Kelowna always make it a more than welcoming place to walk into. We've been so lucky to take programs there such as Discovery College, helping people expand their knowledge and abilities to improve their own well-being and better manage their own life’s challenges like stress and anxiety. This is a 3-week course that's set to fully launch in 2020! SafeTALK which is invaluable training for individuals wanting to be part of the change and giving them the tools to be able to assess and manage suicide awareness and prevention situations.
What's most important to note is CMHA Kelowna's commitment to helping all aspects of the mental health community. Whether it's individuals struggling and looking for support, they have a wide range of activities and groups to suit many people's needs. As well as providing information and proactive care for the general public and their workplaces. Or through programs listed above for people who have taken on the caregiver role and need to balance their own mental well-being. All of these programs and initiatives can be found easily on their website: https://cmhakelowna.com/ !
CMHA Kelowna's commitment to the community has been nothing short of inspiring as the charity put together a team to participate in our inaugural Strike Out The Stigma tournament to kick off mental illness awareness week at the beginning of October. Not to mention, the team crushed some big hits and big plays to make them the champions of SOTS and recipients of the grand prize donation $1,597.86!! One of our biggest supports, we are so grateful for the CMHA Kelowna's involvement and look very forward to its future.
