We've been so blown away by getting to know our community and the amazing work people are doing here not only for themselves, but for the many others who seek support. When we first launched the idea of Strike Out The Stigma, a battle of the charities slo pitch tournament, Bridge Youth and Family Services was the first team on board - with no hesitation.
The Bridge has worked on being a discreet and safe place for youth and their families to work through innovative and quality programming. Their services range from:
- Parenting Education and Support
- Addictions Services (Withdrawal Management and Intensive Residential Treatment)
- Children, Youth and Family Counselling
- Residential, Foster Home and Caregiver Support
- Youth and Young Adult Outreach and Transition Services
Since 1969, Bridge has been a source for change for many struggling youth who are supported through each step of a process to a healthier way of life. As the bridge continues to innovate, more necessary and required services become available including support for a wide-range of individuals regardless of age. With two facilities and great care in Recovery and Addictions services, individuals are able to get the kick start they need and the care and attention they deserve. The most impressive part about being admitted into these programs is it can start as simple as a registration online.
What stood out the most for us when we got to sit down with Jamie Shinkewski, Community and Marketing Coordinator, was how invested each and every member of staff is with not only the individuals working through challenges but the support workers and volunteers as well. There is ample opportunity to get involved if you are able to offer your time, a safe place, or support for individuals with complex needs. It's an incredibly powerful community that also puts value in proactive and instructive care to families like with their program, Healthy Together. With cooking, learning, and physical activities, this innovative program works to bring families together while working on healthy relationships and lifestyle choices.
Celebrating 50 years last year (2019), The Bridge Youth and Family Services continues to do a great deal of work in our community. If you know someone who could benefit from utilizing these services or if you yourself are interested- the website is only a click away: https://www.thebridgeservices.ca/ !
We were so grateful to have them as such a huge support and ball of energy (pun intended) at Strike Out The Stigma - can't wait for next year!!
