Wow! We've been saying that a lot lately- but wow.
When Michael and I first started planning Strike Out The Stigma it stayed in "the early stages" for a while... We knew we wanted to make it happen, we just didn't accept it very early on. We made a few calls, made a few connections, and decided to start doing up the social media and website and introduce ourselves around town.
We talked about our story, we drafted up some emails and documents and started heading out around Kelowna to share our message. It was two fold - 1) come hang out with us for Strike Out The Sigma 2) see us face to face and learn more about us! We met some awesome, awesome people. Ones who ended up putting in a team for their charity or local organization!
Ones who reached out to their networks to support us.
Ones who donated prizes and funds for charity.
Ones who offered to share the weekend with us and bring their incredible local businesses.
Ones who volunteered their time and expertise to help us every step of the way.
It's been an absolute privilege to share this weekend with so many incredible individuals from all across Western Canada.
There were downsides of course, there were challenges and roadblocks. Quite literally. We had major construction around the diamond for the entire weekend and leading up to it. We had challenges locating funding this late in the year. We hoped for more spectators and volunteers...
But of course we would! Of course we would hope that we knocked this one out of the park (pun fully intended) and in some regards, I feel like we did. We worked to nurture a sense of community and belonging that has been really special to both of us. We got people to connect in a non-business kind of way. And mostly, we had a blast. Can we spend all our weekends with you guys?
So when people ask, how'd it go??? Honestly, great. And we can't wait to do it again!
