Hello, You Are Collective Community! Thank you so much for being here, and for supporting a movement we believe in so strongly.
I'm sure you've browsed Our Evolution page so you got the gist, but in case you were just a little more curious about us... here it is!
My name is Rebecca, I'll likely be the one doing all the writing and social media for our brand so you'll get to know me quite well! Should we start from the top? Early childhood stuff? Juuuust kidding. I don't want to bore you with the good stuff. My life always revolved around family + friends. Two of the most important things to me! I have a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to family however as my parents are divorced. Just tack on an extra eight 'step-siblings' to my two older sisters and we've got quite a few people to keep track of! Luckily they're all lovely people who have been nothing but supportive and encouraging. Crazy right?
Growing up I loved to volunteer, public speak, act, dance, sing, cheerlead, organize events... I make myself sound like an extrovert, but really I consider myself an omnivert (little bit of both, you know!?). I had every intention of becoming a teacher until I was in Grade 12, probably a little overwhelmed, looking for a different opportunity and purpose. I found SAIT's Broadcast News program, applied, got accepted and I mean the rest is history, right? Lol. I wish.
My post-secondary education was filled with lessons, wonderful people, some not so great people, and a lot of WTF moments. I went through the motions, got a job right out of school and immediately spiralled back into misery. It wasn't what I wanted. But it's what everyone else wanted for me. Seriously torn, my boyfriend of a year at that point and I decided to drop everything we associated with 'home' and make a move to The Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada.
High off of adventure and a new place to explore, the first few months were glorious and refreshing. Then it was back to that misery place again... 'what am I doing' 'where am I going' 'what is my purpose.' I was 20 at that time, TWENTY. And losing my sh%! trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing for the rest of my life. Through immense support from the people I love (who generously love me back), I sought out help from a professional who could hopefully help me make sense of it all.
*SPOILER ALERT* She was the best, and she absolutely helped. I'm such an advocate for counselling/therapy, whatever you want to call it because of the success story I can share. I know it's not all good, I know I'm lucky to have found someone so intentional. I also believe we should never give up. We owe it to ourselves to never, ever give up.
Fast forward a few months and I got my dream job, I'm building a brand I love so much with a person I love so much. Nothing is perfect, not even close. But it's so much better than it was. And it's only going to get better. Maybe not every day. But bit by bit. So here I am! Hurling my heart and soul at you and hoping you can be that light for someone, or you will find that light you need.
"Be passionate in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire."
You don't need to know everything, you don't even have to have it all figured out. You just need to do the things you love with the people you love. Your passion will drive you in the right direction.
I guess I'll write a little blurb about Michael seeing as he's a pretty important part of this whole operation ;)
Michael grew up on the east coast perfecting his Newfie accent for most of his childhood before his family made the cross-country trek to Alberta! Finishing up junior high and attending high school in Spruce Grove, Michael was always an extremely caring and hard working individual when it came to things that sparked his interest.
However, the transition from middle school in Newfoundland to Junior High in Alberta brought a lot of challenges leading to a lack of focus and motivation for school. Luckily he kept committed to his work ethic through different part-time jobs throughout school and his late teens before landing a Conductor job at CN Rail.
This time for Michael is when most of his life lessons occurred from meeting a wonderful new support system to being completely independent and accountable, to prioritizing the good times with the not so good times.
Fast forward a few years and after a stint of working for family, retaining all the knowledge and mentorship he could, we took a leap and landed in The Okanagan. Not quite sure what this new place had in store for him, he buried his head in books and videos and audio to develop his skills in business and other areas he found fascinating such as Oenology and Automotives. Seriously- ask this guy ANYTHING about cars!!
Above all, Michael is caring, compassionate, kind-hearted, genuine, brilliant and so much more. He is hoping submersing himself in this business and mental health awareness will help to battle some of his own demons while inspiring others to do the same. His future is on fire it's so bright, and I'm so lucky I get to walk with him through it!
With so many great things to come, we're so excited to have you all along for this journey! Please share our cause, help us illuminate our movement even if you can't purchase or donate, and follow us on social media! Chat soon Xx
